2012 Small Lot Serenity
This blend has wonderful aromas and flavors of ripe blackberry, roasted coffee with toasted spice. It’s big yet balanced with good tannins and a long, smooth finish.
The majoirty of the Syrah came from our Hayes ranch in the Livermore Valley and a small balance from our Arroyo Seco ranch. The Grenache and Counoise were harvested from the Marina ranch and the Graciano came from the Mel ranch. These grapes were ultra-farmed, handpicked into half-ton bins, and hand sorted in order to ensure premium quality.
After being handpicked, the Syrah was fermented in stainless steel tanks and pumped over three times daily. The Grenache, Counoise, and Graciano were fermented in small open top fermenters and hand punched down twice daily.
The Syrah was aged in French and American oak barrels. The Grenache was aged in new and neutral French barrels. The Counoise and Graciano were aged in neutral barrels. The wine was aged in separate pieces for 7 months. The wines were racked and blended, and then aged in barrels for an additional three months before bottling for a total of 10 months in oak.
