2006 Small Lot Merlot

Our Small Lot Merlot has a velvety red color, with aromas and flavors of red cherry and chocolate complemented by hints of tobacco and spearmint. With smooth tannins and integrated oak that marries with the fruit, this wine has an elegant mouthfeel and a long-lasting finish.

Vineyard:

The fruit was harvested from the Reliz Creek block in Arroyo Seco, Monterey.  The region’s cool, long growing season allows the grapes to fully develop subtle flavors not usually found in this varietal in California.

Fermentation:

After being handpicked, the grapes were hand-sorted at the winery and gently crushed and fermented in small stainless steel tanks.  The wine was pumped over twice daily and gently pressed, leaving any possible bitter tannins behind.

Aging:

After primary fermentation, the wine was aged for 18 months in French, American, and Eastern European oak barrels.
